Ball State University
Eric has helped me develop my skills and prepared me to make the transition from club volleyball to collegiate volleyball at Ball State University. Having been coached by Eric through an elite program, I was able to be prepared going into my freshman year of college and able to make an impact right out of the gate. Eric is vastly known throughout the volleyball community and is eager to help any player find the perfect school for their collegiate career. I view Eric as a coach and a mentor; he has been there every step of the way for me and continues to keep in contact to see how my collegiate career is going.
Barb Kniep - Parent
From a parent’s perspective, I was always comfortable in the knowledge that my daughter was spending a lot of time at practice and games being influenced by a coach who is a good family man who expected the best from his players in a very healthy way and with a sense of humor. He is able to maintain and help each girl find that healthy balance between striving to do their best and keeping it all in perspective. He teaches great skills for life, as well as volleyball.
Ever since I was a little girl, I had always dreamt of playing collegiate volleyball one day. Without Eric, that dream would’ve never become a reality. I honestly believe that none of my team members would have been able to play at the school of their dreams without Eric. His vast knowledge and experience in the sport, along with his many connections to college recruiters around the world made him expert when it came to coaching. He knew exactly how to teach and communicate the skills necessary for the next level. I can remember time after time, Eric staying late after practice to help me perfect my serve one-on-one, describing exactly what I was doing wrong and how to fix it. He always made it clear that he would accept nothing but our best, which motivated all of us to work day in and day out to reach the level of play we all knew we could reach. What made his coaching style really impactful, was that he made personal connections with each one of us, which made it possible for him to critique our game without us taking it personally. Still to this day, Eric and I will laugh at old jokes and memories made while he was my club coach.
Eric not only invested in my physical side of the game, but also the mental side. These days, many people do not realize how important it is to have a strong mentality when attempting to play any sport at the next level. I remember when I was younger, I was not exactly as confident in my skills as I should have been. I remember being nervous to play in club games, which sometimes hindered my performance. Eric immediately saw this obstacle of mine, and helped me change my mentality in order to succeed. He would always express his belief in me, and how important it was to believe in myself. It wasn’t an easy mindset to train, but Eric did everything he could to help me along the way.
Eric had a positive impact not only on my volleyball career, but also my life in general. Eric truly cares about all of his players, and we still keep in touch to this day. I am so grateful to have had a coach like him, and to have a lifelong supporter and role model. I always loved looking up in the stands at my volleyball games at Northwestern University to see Eric — the coach who helped me reach my dream of playing collegiate volleyball and always believed in me from the start — cheering for me and my team. Thank you for everything that you do, Eric. You have truly made a huge, positive impact on my life in many different ways.
Illinois State University
Having Eric Schulze as my 18s coach right before heading off to college was definitely a beneficial experience by preparing me to be ready for what I could expect [in college]. He is dedicated and motivated to helping all of his players to be the best they can be and getting them ready to play at the collegiate level. I am truly thankful for the opportunity I had to be coached by him and learn so many skills that I use today at Illinois State! Could not have done it without Eric!
